It’s been a long time since I’ve had a workout challenge in this neck of the woods, and I don’t know about you, but I think we are long overdue for one!

So with that said, I’ve decided to bring back a challenge from way in the early days of this blog, and will be hosting a new Marathon Week challenge next week!

He's excited on the inside.

The premise behind this challenge is pretty simple:  To complete 26.2 miles (the length of a marathon) over the course of 7 days.

For some this may be a little daunting, and the whole point is that it is a CHALLENGE, but if you break it down it’s really not so bad.  You could do 3.74 (and some change) miles a day for 7 days, or 5.24 miles a day for 5 days, two half marathons (13.1 miles) or an actual marathon (which would be awesome).

Generally speaking, this would be done by way of running or walking (I’ll be doing a bit of both), but if you want to skip, bike, do it on the elliptical, swim (God help you…), or whatever, then be my guest.  Just get your ass out there and get moving! :)

I had originally had this challenge back in November 2009, and had alot of fun with it.  And I don’t consider this to be as crazy psychotic as some of my other challenges have been, so for me at least, this will be a nice way to get back into the swing of things.

Don’t think there won’t be anymore crazy psychotic challenges though in the future, because I had fun with them too!

Anywho, the challenge will officially begin on at 12am on Monday, June 6th and will end at 11:59pm on Sunday, June 12th.   If you’re interested, let me know in the comments!  I will be posting challenge updates throughout next week and you can keep me updated in the comments, on your own blog (drop me the link though!), on twitter using the #MarathonWeek hashtag, or on my Facebook Page!

And this should go without saying, but…challenge yourself, but don’t KILL yourself.  Be safe while working out and get clearance by your doctor before starting a new workout program, including this workout challenge.  I claim no responsibility for any injuries you might sustain.

Now that that’s out of the way.  I really excited about this, and I hope you’ll join in the fun.

WooT! :)

…110 minutes and 30 seconds of cardio…

…HOLY CRAP!

.

Another #amerryworkoutpledge down, WOOHOO!

I just completed my portion of the challenge, and I think it’s safe to say that my ass is officially kicked.  I ran for last months challenge but wanted to change it up a bit for this month, so I went with the exercise bike.  I usually only do 10-15 minutes at a time on the bike, so this would definitely be…different.

All in all, it wasn’t that bad!  My ass hurts, which was expected, and my legs feel a bit like jello, but it was a good experience and it went by really fast!  I still feel like I was cheating on running though, but I’ll get over that, it’s good to have a nice mix :)

I completed the challenge and rode 27.6 miles.  Is that a lot?  I honestly have NO IDEA.  I don’t have alot of biking experience so I don’t know what to gauge it against.  It’s more than a marathon worth of riding though, so it can’t be that bad :)

And like before, here is my sweaty after pic…

Again, sexy, right?  The bike beside me is the one I used for the challenge.  The people in the background are, well, people in the background :-P

HOW DID YOU DO?

Some of you are in the process of completing the challenge, others are completing it tomorrow or over the weekend or whatever.  It’s all awesome regardless, and I want to know how you did!  Once you have finished, let me know the following:

  • Type of activity completed
  • Mileage (if you did the bike or treadmill, for example…)
  • URL of your challenge followup (if you have a blog and do a follow up post)

I want to gather all of this information and do a followup post with everyones information later, and I don’t want to miss anyone :)   In the meantime, you can follow everyones progress on twitter!  Look for the #amerryworkoutpledge hashtag!

I’m having a lot of fun with this challenge and I hope it continues to grow and travel through the blog community.  You guys are awesome!

And now, I need a nap…or at least dinner :)   Have a great evening!

Last month, Mary set up a workout pledge where every comment on this post equated to 30 seconds of cardio.

Myself and Jen volunteered to match her time, and then it just blew up from there.  In the end the three of us, and SO MANY OTHERS ended up doing 90 minutes of cardio.

WooT!

Well guess what, its back!

This time I am hosting #amerryworkoutpledge!

So what’s the deal? You have until 4pm today (Eastern Standard Time) to leave a comment on this post.  Every comment will equal 30 seconds of cardio that I will complete later today.  Any and everyone is encouraged to join in on the fun too!  You can complete the challenge on the treadmill, the ARC Trainer, the eliptical, the bike, whatever!  Just remember to NOT overdo or hurt yourself, just do what you can or break it up into chunks if you have to.

That’s basically it! You have a little under 10 hours to get your comment in.

We got up to 90 minutes last time, what can we do today? That may or may not be a challenge.

Ready, set, go!
