Triforce!

I just came back from another one of Les Mills Body classes.  This time was BodyCombat, and I have to say it was a lot of fun.  Here is the description from the Les Mills site:

BODYCOMBAT™ is the empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors, you strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.

I have a little itty bit of experience in Tae Kwon Do, and it’s something I’ve been wanting to get back into, but a martial arts-ish class like this for the time being is a good (and cheaper) alternative.  I wouldn’t consider it to be nearly as intense as BodyPump and BodyAttack, but it’s still a lot of fun and is a good workout.  I was (jokingly) calling these three classes my Triforce of Pain, but it’s a good pain, and I think a mix of these three classes would be a good way to go weekly.  I’m noticing that I’m pushing myself harder than I really would on my own, mostly because I don’t want to look like a pussy in front of my classmates :)   There are some other classes I want to try too, like RPM and Aqua Sculpt, so we’ll see how everything fits into (hopefully) a nice routine.

Running, Walking, and Cycling, oh my!

I was looking on my training breakdown on Dailymile this morning, and I came to see something…

I suck.  Especially lately! My mileage has been terrible all around these past few months, and even into September, which was supposed to be my ”reset.”  I want to try to break the trend though, so between now and the end of October I would like to push to add 200 miles to my mileage totals.  100 of those miles will be cycling, and 100 of those miles will be running/walking.  I’m still grouping running and walking together because I know I have some work to do before I’m able to run like I was earlier in the year, but hopefully by the end of October I will have made some headway.  I pulled off 200 miles in January, it was hard, but I did it, so I know I can do another round.

Weigh-Ins

I’m kind of worried that I am going to have a gain this week.  The scale has been looking that way and I don’t exactly think I can turn it around in the next two days.  After Tuesday though, I’m considering going to bi-weekly weigh ins.  The scale really is just a number, and it isn’t giving you the number you want, it can really devastate your mindset.  And even when you are doing a good job, it’s still possible to have a bad week. So with that in mind, I’d like to focus more on just trying to get fit and not worrying about what the scale says (although I do hope it’ll still turn out favorably). I was originally considering going to monthly weigh ins, but I don’t know if I could stand to wait that long, to be honest.

Anniversary

I started this blog on October 8th, 2009, which means my one year blogiversary is approaching!  I wish I had more to show for it, like six pack abs or killer biceps, but the journey definitely hasn’t been easy.  While in some ways this year has been lackluster, in other ways I do think I’ve kicked ass.  Year two will have less lackluster and more asskicking though, I promise you that :)   If you want to send me presents though, I’m more than willing to accept them (I kid, I kid)!

That’s all I got for now, peeps. Hope you’ve had a great weekend.

Jun 082010

So Tuesdays are generally Status Report days, but for the next couple weeks they are on hold.

I wish I could say something insightful like I’m not weighing myself because I don’t want to be controlled by a number.  While that is true to an extent, it’s really only because I’m housesitting for my aunt for the next couple weeks, so I am without scale access.  Insightfulness FAIL :-P

I still plan on losing weight though!  This isn’t an excuse to go all crazy with the food again.  So the next scale reading will be on the 22nd, so we’ll see how that goes.

I have my fitness goals though, but unfortunately I didn’t too well with them last week.

  • Run/walk (but mostly run) 20 miles this week.  FAIL! Only 10.7 miles completed.
  • Bike 30 miles. FAIL! 15.21 miles completed.
  • At least three strength training workouts. FAIL! None whatsoever.
  •

I don’t want to say it was all laziness, because I was actually kind of busy this past week.  I’ve been trying to get overtime in for my trip coming up, and I have schoolwork.  So while that kept me busy somewhat, there was still some laziness involved.  Boo!

It’s going to be more of the same work and school stuff this week, but I still want to push for some fitness goals.

    • Run/walk 20 miles. There are alot of suburban neighborhoods in this area, which I think would be good to run in.
    • Three strength training workouts. My aunt and uncle have a weight set, which means I have no excuse :-P

So there’s that.  Gotta let the dogs out now :-P

Have a great day, everyone! :)
