Hiyas!

I know I’ve been kind of neglecting the blog lately, and I apologize for that, but I’m here now, so it’s all good, right?! #holyrunonsentencebatman

But, ya know, I wanted to report in, because something kind of cool is happening.

I’m actually having a REALLY GOOD week.

I’ve talked about my struggles with my weight loss, and my stressors with work and school. It’s strange though, because all of that stuff is still there, but I’m feelin’ good!

WORK- Going well, and I’ve been feeling pretty motivated to keep up with my overtime too!  So much so, in fact, that I will probably end up working about 80 hours this week.  For some most people, this is very bad thing, but for me, it’s not.  You see, I like to work.  It’s always been the one thing I’ve been REALLY REALLY good at, and I am okay with that.  I even got called out at a meeting for being “exemplary” this week, which was awesome, especially since the full time teleworkers tend to be the red headed stepchildren of my company.  Not to mention the fact that 80 hours of work this week means 40 hours at time and half pay, which is schweet!

DIET- This past Sunday I went back to counting my Weight Watchers Points, and so far it’s been going great.  I’m getting back to me much more conscientious about what I am eating, and I’m not depriving myself.  I’ve had candy this week, and I had pizza for dinner last night, but I fit it into my point allotment and I’m still losing weight (about 4 pounds down from my weight on Monday so far).  Now granted, I still have a pretty ASTRONOMICAL amount of Points right now, but it’s working! :)

EXCERCISE- Basically, I’m doing it :) .  I’m not hitting the gym 2 hours a day or anything, but I’m going on walks, and utilizing the new trails they’ve started putting up in my area.  I was even able to get up at 5:30 this morning for a walk, which isn’t something I’ve been able to do for a long time.  I’ve also hit the elliptical a couple times, for about 20 minute intervals.

SCHOOL- I still have time left, as my new semester started this month and runs to the end of the month, but I am working.  I worked a little bit on a Marketing project over the weekend, and I’m trying to get a little bit of study time in for a test I have on 8/8.  I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I will get it done.

DEBT- Remember when I was blogging about my debt?  Well, that went a whole lot of nowhere post wise, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t working on it.  In fact, I was recently about to pay off a huge debtor, which means that I’ve been able to knock about $9000 worth of debt, to about $250…and even that will be gone soon.  What does that mean?  I’m going to be able to start focusing on SAVING soon, and may eventually not have to live paycheck to paycheck anymore.  How cool is THAT?! :D

AWESOME BY AUGUST- We’ve had an awesome turnout for this challenge, which in of itself has been pretty motivating.  Kerri, Brooke and I also hosted our first Twitter chat this past week, which I think turned out great, even if things got a little silly at the end. :)

CHANGES- I don’t want to get into too much detail about it yet, but I’m contemplating some major changes in my life.  The idea of it all is scary, yet exciting, and I’m hoping everything plays out like I’d like.  So stay tuned, for updates will be coming. :)

And that’s all I got for now, but it’s quite a bit, eh?  Now I need to piece of wood to knock on so I don’t jinx myself, and then I need to get back to work!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

“Sweat the Small Stuff”

I know the saying is suppose to be “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” and yes, I think that’s a great way to look at your overall weight loss and a great way to look at life in general, but when it comes to your diet and what put in your body, I like to use the saying “Sweat the Small Stuff” because it’s the small stuff that matters.

If you’re wondering what I mean by “the small stuff”, it’s all the little things that can sabotage your diet and healthy eating without you really even knowing or thinking that they do.  Things like pop, juice, mayo, cheese, salt, coffee cream, salad dressing, bacon, skin on chicken, sour cream, barbeque sauce, beer… The list goes on and on.  You could be busting your ass every day in the gym but if your diet isn’t bang on as well, you’re fighting a losing battle.

My life, as is the case of 90% of the people in the world, is hectic.  Working long hours, painting the house, yard work, commitments to sports teams or committees and everything else that goes on during the week hasn’t left me with much time to workout.  In the past two weeks I’ve gone for a few very short runs here and there, I’m doing the hundred pushup challenge three times a week and I’m trying to kick my own ass at least once a week with a bodyweight workout like this one, but besides that I’m not training like I use and I’m not really getting much exercise in my life.  This is where sweating the small stuff has saved me.

Over the past two weeks, with minimal exercise, I’ve lost 2.5 lbs solely by watching what I eat.  Now when I use the words “minimal” and “solely” please don’t assume that what I did was easy. It’s been a two-week period with no mayo, no cheese, light dressings, no skin on my chicken, portion control, calorie counting and measuring and weighing of my food, but it’s all been worth it.  I’m feeling good, and healthy and it’s literally all because I’ve been watching “the small stuff”.

I’m currently on my second week of the Awesome By August challenge  where I want to lose 10 lbs in 4 weeks.  This is a HUGE goal but by sweating the small stuff I’m already 1 lbs towards reaching it. I know if I want to actually hit my goal, I have to get my ass in gear and get sweating in the gym, but sweating the small stuff and watching what I’m eating is a great place to start.
I could really go on and on about the small stuff and how it really does affect your diet but I’ll give you this one example and end on it.  When I started my weight loss the journey to lose 100 lbs, the first thing I changed was something very small and attainable.  I changed my large Timmies “double-double” (for you non-Canucks, that means a large coffee with two cream and two sugar in it) to a large one milk and one Splenda.  That one change alone helped me lose my first 10 lbs and was the beginning of a new life for me.  Think about that and tell me that one small squirt of mayo on your sandwich doesn’t matter…
