I’ve seen alot of people on the Twitters and the Dailymile speaking out various Body Whatever classes… You have Body Vive, Body Combat, Body Jam, Body Space Jam (may not be real), etc…etc…etc…

My shiny new gym offers alot of these classes for free to it’s members, so tonight I decided to try…BODY PUMP!

According to the Les Mills website, Body Pump is:

“BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast!”

Cool beans! I pretty much suck at strength training, and I’ve never really been a major fan, but I know I need it, so I thought taking it in a clA typical BODYPUMP™ class.ass form, taught by someone who knows that they are doing, would be a good idea.

The class covers each of the major muscle groups, and really is an asskicking workout.  Even using low weight, it was very hard to keep up with everything, and I did struggle at times, but overall I managed okay.  The class was 60 minutes long, but it flew by pretty quickly, which also helped a lot.

As I write this (9:30pm while watching Outsourced on NBC), I’m feeling okay.  My arms hurt a bit, but it is nothing too horrible.  I’m totally prepared to feel sore as hell tomorrow morning (update: as of 6:27 I’m still feelings kinda alright, so WooT!), but thats okay, because it will be a soreness of accomplishment…or something… :P

There are a few other classes I want to try, including Body Combat and Body Attack, and then hopefully get a regular routine going on with that.  All of that, plus getting back into a regular running routine…and yeah, that healthy diet BS (I kid!), and hopefully we’ll start seeing some awesome progress.  To quote the awesome Mrs. Fatass (who has a spiffy new blog look): It’s time.

WooT!

Do any of you readers take any of the Les Mills classes?  What do you think of them?

Have a great day, ya’ll!

Throughout this entire journey, I’ve had access to three different places where I could work out.  They weren’t so much gyms though, as they were small fitness centers, which a few weight machines, a few cardio machines, etc…etc…etc…

It’s been great, and I’ve utilized them quite a bit, but for a while I’ve wanted a bit more.

So I joined a gym! :D

I recently signed up for a membership at Brick Bodies, which is a Baltimore area chain, and I have to say so far it’s been pretty awesome.

  • Each cardio machine has it’s own TV
  • It has an indoor pool, and kids are only allowed at certain times. WooT!
  • It has free weights
  • It has a boxing room
  • It has free group classes, including all the Body____ classes and Spinning.
  • It has my precious ARC Trainers :)
  • Etc…etc…etc…

The only downside is that it’s not open 24 hours, but honestly, it’s been a lllooonnnggg time since I’ve wanted to work out before between 11pm and 5am, so I don’t think this will be a major hindrance.  It also costs a bit more than I’ve had to pay in a while, even with a corporate discount through work, but I’ve spent more money on fast food and pizza these past few months, so I think this is a valid substitute.

Here is a nifty little layout for you, if at all interested:

While you don’t need to have access to a fancy gym in order to have a really good workout program, I think it helps, and I’ve noticed that seeing other people working their asses off has helped with my motivation (which is surprising, because before I’d always be embarrassed to work out in front of others).  Hopefully this well help with my goals for the long haul…especially since I have a yearlong contract :P

Where do you workout?

Have a great day, everyone!

Today’s high is going to be 75 degrees.

Tomorrow?  79.  It also looks like it will be the 70s for the most of next week as well.

Let the cooldown begin!

My favorite season has always been Spring, with Summer being a close second.  I was really a fan of Autumn because everything starts to die and the world looks depressing, but early Autumn is looking pretty good right now.  The leaves are still green, the temperatures are cool, I can actually turn off the AC (WooT to no more $250 bills, for now…), and outdoor exercise is going to become a little more bearable.

I started this journey last October, so this was first summer which involved real exercise.  Overall, it wasn’t too too bad, even with the record highs in the Baltimore area, but when a lot of your running/walking was in the Fall and Winter, switching gears to warmer weather, and then HOT weather, was a bit of a shock.  And when it’s unbearably hot out, unless you’re at a pool, you really DON’T want to be outside.

So I’m definitely looking forward to these next few months for getting back on track.  I think I’ll be much less likely to hide out in the cool apartment and to venture outside.  WooT!

What is your favorite season to workout in? Do you prefer warmer weather or cooler weather?

Have a great weekend everyone!
