Jan 082010

TGIF everyone, I hope your first full week of the year has been fruitful.

To start out 2010, I’ve become involved in several challenges to help me reach my long term goals.  Here is the first update…WooT!

NEW YEAR CHALLENGES

New Year 100 Mile Running Challenge
-We’re off to a great start, and we have FIFTEEN challenges! That is beyong awesome, but I am officially getting my butt whooped. I am in 7th place w/ 14.41 miles, but I am confident I will finish the challenge.  I will probably not do any running today, but I hope I knock out a chunk tomorrow, and I have my (FIRST) 5k on Sunday. WOOHOO!

New Year 500 Mile Biking Challenge
-I am resolving to complete this challenge, but I am not AS CONFIDENT as I am about the running challenge. Out of 5 challengers, I am in second place w/ 59.16miles.  In first place, Alex is destroying it at 109.35 miles.  AWESOME JOB!

That’s it for my own challenges, good luck to everyone participating.  If you weren’t, we still have alot of time left, so why not sign up and see what you can do?

PERFECT 10 CHALLENGE

And here is my Perfect 10 update for the week:

  • Lose at least 15 pounds (starting weight 245 pounds)–down 2.4 pounds so far…looking good (so far!)
  • Run/walk/jog 200 miles–14.41 miles down, 185.59 miles to go…dddaaammmmnnn
  • Strength train at least twice a week–SUCCESS!  I did upper body circuits on Sunday and Tuesday, and lower body on Monday and Wednesday
  • Run a 5k road race–This WILL be a success as of my NEXT update.  I am running the Mighty Medford Freeway 5k on Sunday and I am getting more and more excited every day.
  • Finish at least one of this semesters college courses–I haven’t really worked on anything since the new year started.  I had done some work after Christmas to get ahead, but it kind of defeats the purpose if you stop after that.  I will accomplish this though :)
  • Beat Super Mario Brothers Wii–I did finally make it to World 4, but OMG this game is so hard.  Watch for a full post/whinefest coming soon!
  •

Steve is also asking we post something that noone knows about us, so here goes:  I’ve been skydiving.  I know, right?  I went in 2003 before I started college, and It.Was.AWESOME!

    HABIT.A.WEEK CHALLENGE

Lyn from Escape from Obesity is hosting a Habit.A.Week Challenge. The goal is easy enough, to make a small change each work in order to live a healthier lifestyle.  The “habit” for this week was to fix your water intake..

…and I’m doing okay. I’ve mentioned this before, but I do fine w/ my water while I’m at work.  I have a 32oz cup that I fill and refill at least 3 times over the course of my shift.  Its when at home on the evenings and weekends that I flounder, but I am working on it.  The past two nights I’ve had one big cup of water, but I want to do better.  We’ll see how this goes.

And…that’s it?  How are you all doing with your goals so far?

    Progress Report: Week 13
    Weight: 242.6 lbs
    BMI: 35.3
Weight loss so far: 2.4 lbs lost since last week, 22.4 lbs lost total

I’m still working my way down to undo the damage from the holidays, but I am now 1 pounds away from my lowest weight as of yet (241.6lbs), so I’m happy about that.

Been awhile since I did an progress pic, so I went ahead and posted one today (you can click on the pic to see a full sized copy).  There isn’t a huge difference between Week 8 and Week 13, but it’s still there, I think.  On the advice of a co-worker I’m trying to wear the same shirt (so long as its practical) for each progress pic to help emphasize the difference.  Hopefully soon I’ll be wearing smaller clothes though :)

Everything is going really well so far, and I’m really proud of the fact that the challengers in my two fitness challenges have hit the ground running (and are royally kicking my ass too).  Click on the links below to check out their progress, and maybe even to register.  The month is still young, so there is PLENTY of time left!

In addition to these challenges, and the Perfect 10 Challenge (goals update on Friday), I also want to start posting weekly goals for myself again.  I always seem to do much better when I give myself something to work towards on a smaller scale, and they will all play into the bigger picture anyway.  The weekly goals will run from today until next Tuesday, so here goes…

    • Work 15 hours of overtime
    • Spend 8 hours on schoolwork
    • Have 4 homecooked dinners
    • Get 4 EXTRA workouts in (a small workout before or after work, in addition to what I normally do on my lunch break-I did one this morning so I have 3 more to go).
    • Bike 60 miles (since this is where I am REALLY struggling right now)

So yeah, I have challenges and goals coming out of my ass right now, hehehe.  It’s all good though, it will only make me stronger in the end.

How are you all doing?  Hope you have a good day.

    2009, eh?  It’s been a hell of a year.

    • I traveled out of the country for the first time, and then again a few months later. WooT!  Went to Toronto in April, then Montreal and Ottawa in July.
    • Got a promotion at work (in name only, still pretty much do the same thing).
    • Moved to a new apartment, had a car die, had that car replaced (with the much maligned Windstar).
    • Made new friends (including you guys)
    • Kinda lost an old one (hopefully that friendship is slowly rebuilding though)
    • Had my wake up call, and began the journey to living a healthier life.
    • Saw some of my FIRST EVER fitness related goals accomplished.
    • Started a cool little website and have found support from all over in my journey.  You guys rock…
    • Etc, etc, etc…

All in all, this year has had plenty of ups and downs, which I guess happens every year.

    But this is it.

Tomorrow starts a new year, a new decade, and a new chapter in 265andfalling.  These past few months have been a nice prologue, as I said before, but now I think we’re getting into the thick of it.

I dunno about you, but I’m excited.

Tommorow I will be posting my weigh in (which will hopefully be in the 230′s) and I will be posting my goals for South Beach Steve’s Perfect 10 Challenge

I will also began working on my own fitness challenges.  There are four competitors for each so far (which is AWESOME) but still plenty of time for you to sign up, so get on it!  :)

Tonight I’m going to chill out at a friends house, play Wii, and usher in the new year.  What are your plans?

Until next year, my friends, PEACE AND LOVE!
