May 242011

Over the weekend, a very awesome person told me that I looked different than I did last year at Fitbloggin.

I was quick to respond that “I am fatter” because I am about 35 pounds heavier. She said that wasn’t it.

It could have also been because I’m sporting glasses this time around.

That wasn’t it either. She said that I looked “happier.”

I had to think on that a little bit, and honestly? I am.

Sure, the weight loss stuff can be frustrating, but overall the other aspects of my life are going a lot smoother. A huge chunk of my debt is gone, I have a car, work is going well, school is going along, etc…etc…

But I think a lot of it can be attributed to the fact I’ve starting dating someone, a really great guy.

So if you aren’t getting it, missed the twitter, or missed the quick link/hint the other day, I am gay.

This isn’t a new life revelation, and I’ve been out to friends and family for several years now, and even a few of my blogger friends already knew. For some reason coming out to everyone on the blog terrified me. Although honestly, I’ve talked about seeing Lady Gaga, and watching Golden Girls, so I’m sure at least some of you were suspicious. :P

I gotta say, so far everyone has been really awesome about it, which I should have expected to begin with, because you all rock.

And it’s not like this really changes anything. I am still Steve, the same guy you’ve been reading, with the same struggles, and the same inability to pin down a blog name. I still can’t spell for shit, curse like a sailor, am a total slob and enjoy all sorts of randomness. If I talk about the boyfriend it will be very rarely, because I’m not sure how comfortable he is being talked about on here anyway. I should probably get a cool nickname for him though, like B-Fry or Trophy Husband, but I guess that’ll come in time.

Also, I’ve mentioned before about my love of Natalie Portman. This wasn’t some attempt to “cover” myself or do away with any suspicions. I do seriously love Natalie Portman, and would go straight for her in a heartbeat. ;)

The only real difference is that I don’t feel like to hide that one aspect of who I am, and that I’m apparently visibly happier.

I can deal with that. :)

  8. I am so proud and lucky to be able to call you friend. Or “my goddamn friend” really, because I swear like a sailor too.

  9. Happy is good. Good is happy. You, Steve, are happy. And that’s good. I’m so happy for you. So, to review: happy is good. Good is happy. End sap. What the FUCK?! lol

I’m sick. My brain is not firing on all cylinders. Forgive me?!

  10. That’s awesome Steve, I’m very happy for you – happy that you’re happy! It’s great to see that you’re comfortable being the “real you” – I’ve known plenty of people in your situation that weren’t so comfortable, and saw how miserable it made them.

    SHIT FUCK ASS TITS

(sorry, just wanted to jump on this “cursing like a sailor” bandwagon, it looked like fun… :) )

  13. Mittens!

Sorry, I’m not very good at swearing. But I am happy you are happy.

The Golden Girls didn’t tip me off. (Because if that’s the criteria, Tina and I need to have a talk because we’re both gay men, and that’s not what either one of us signed on for.) I’ll admit the squee’s made me wonder. :)

But in all seriousness, I’m happy you are happy. And happy people run faster, which you will need when you’re running from Zombies on October 22nd.

Holy shit, the awesomeness in these comments is fucking amazing.

I am constantly amazed at this community. It’s always so accepting, loving, and supportive. If only everyone in real life was the same!
You rock. I’m glad you’re happy. Keep being awesome!

  21. I love the new, and hopefully permanent, blog name. It suits you because you are AWESOME! Happiness is a life changing thing. Everyone deserves it and I’m glad you found it. Please pardon any spelling errors as I can’t spell for shit either.

  22. YAY! Love this post and I’m happy that you’re happy! Happiness is the bestest. Congrats on your extra pep in your step :)

  23. “Although honestly, I’ve talked about seeing Lady Gaga, and watching Golden Girls, so I’m sure at least some of you were suspicious”

HEY! Totally straight, and I would see Gaga and I love the Golden Girls.

  24. Sigh, living in the reality of who you really are is the BEST FEELING EVER!!!
And, how did we not get into the Natalie Portman lover club discussion? We talked about other things, but not THAT???
We will fix that next year!

  25. Hrm… I must have been sending red herrings out to many people, cause if seeing lady gaga and watching golden girls makes one set off a gaydar… im setting peoples off too! Good thing I’m not an artist on top of all of that… wait. shit. haha!

Nah but in all seriousness, happiness and confidence is all that matters in life. All other stuff is good but those two matter most. Keep running on awesome.

Oh, as for your bf’s pet name, he could be the fried trophy… combining b-fry and trophy hubs, lol

  26. found you via miss mara at medicinal marzipan…

yay for feeling happy! i’ve recently gained back a lot of the weight i lost (unhealthfully) over the past two years and i find myself struck at times by how much happier i feel on a day to day basis. being “skinny” never made me happy. gaining back weight put me back in touch with all the important aspects of life like, you know, healthy relationships with friends and family and laughing and smiling and not crying every day. so i say congratulations to you and your new found comfort! yay new boyfriends :)

and um, natalie portman must have some type of indescribable power because i’d go gay for her in like, two seconds flat ;) !
