Progress Report: September 28th, 2010
Weight: 266.4lbs
Body Fat Percentage:  36%
BMI: 38.8
Weight gain since last week: 3.9 lbs

I said the other day that I was probably going to have a gain, and I was right.  Workouts aside, food wasn’t really on par, and in the end that is what once again screwed me up.  I had a few nights out with friends, a night at my moms (which is always trouble foodwise) and a Microbrewery Festival over the weekend.  I wasn’t really watching what I was doing, and it shows.

By my next weigh in on 11/12/10, I want to be at least 259lbs, and at that point I will be done with the 260s FOREVER…

…for real this time.

Triforce!

I just came back from another one of Les Mills Body classes.  This time was BodyCombat, and I have to say it was a lot of fun.  Here is the description from the Les Mills site:

BODYCOMBAT™ is the empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors, you strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.

I have a little itty bit of experience in Tae Kwon Do, and it’s something I’ve been wanting to get back into, but a martial arts-ish class like this for the time being is a good (and cheaper) alternative.  I wouldn’t consider it to be nearly as intense as BodyPump and BodyAttack, but it’s still a lot of fun and is a good workout.  I was (jokingly) calling these three classes my Triforce of Pain, but it’s a good pain, and I think a mix of these three classes would be a good way to go weekly.  I’m noticing that I’m pushing myself harder than I really would on my own, mostly because I don’t want to look like a pussy in front of my classmates :)   There are some other classes I want to try too, like RPM and Aqua Sculpt, so we’ll see how everything fits into (hopefully) a nice routine.

Running, Walking, and Cycling, oh my!

I was looking on my training breakdown on Dailymile this morning, and I came to see something…

I suck.  Especially lately! My mileage has been terrible all around these past few months, and even into September, which was supposed to be my ”reset.”  I want to try to break the trend though, so between now and the end of October I would like to push to add 200 miles to my mileage totals.  100 of those miles will be cycling, and 100 of those miles will be running/walking.  I’m still grouping running and walking together because I know I have some work to do before I’m able to run like I was earlier in the year, but hopefully by the end of October I will have made some headway.  I pulled off 200 miles in January, it was hard, but I did it, so I know I can do another round.

Weigh-Ins

I’m kind of worried that I am going to have a gain this week.  The scale has been looking that way and I don’t exactly think I can turn it around in the next two days.  After Tuesday though, I’m considering going to bi-weekly weigh ins.  The scale really is just a number, and it isn’t giving you the number you want, it can really devastate your mindset.  And even when you are doing a good job, it’s still possible to have a bad week. So with that in mind, I’d like to focus more on just trying to get fit and not worrying about what the scale says (although I do hope it’ll still turn out favorably). I was originally considering going to monthly weigh ins, but I don’t know if I could stand to wait that long, to be honest.

Anniversary

I started this blog on October 8th, 2009, which means my one year blogiversary is approaching!  I wish I had more to show for it, like six pack abs or killer biceps, but the journey definitely hasn’t been easy.  While in some ways this year has been lackluster, in other ways I do think I’ve kicked ass.  Year two will have less lackluster and more asskicking though, I promise you that :)   If you want to send me presents though, I’m more than willing to accept them (I kid, I kid)!

That’s all I got for now, peeps. Hope you’ve had a great weekend.

I’ve seen alot of people on the Twitters and the Dailymile speaking out various Body Whatever classes… You have Body Vive, Body Combat, Body Jam, Body Space Jam (may not be real), etc…etc…etc…

My shiny new gym offers alot of these classes for free to it’s members, so tonight I decided to try…BODY PUMP!

According to the Les Mills website, Body Pump is:

“BODYPUMP™ is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for – and fast!”

Cool beans! I pretty much suck at strength training, and I’ve never really been a major fan, but I know I need it, so I thought taking it in a clA typical BODYPUMP™ class.ass form, taught by someone who knows that they are doing, would be a good idea.

The class covers each of the major muscle groups, and really is an asskicking workout.  Even using low weight, it was very hard to keep up with everything, and I did struggle at times, but overall I managed okay.  The class was 60 minutes long, but it flew by pretty quickly, which also helped a lot.

As I write this (9:30pm while watching Outsourced on NBC), I’m feeling okay.  My arms hurt a bit, but it is nothing too horrible.  I’m totally prepared to feel sore as hell tomorrow morning (update: as of 6:27 I’m still feelings kinda alright, so WooT!), but thats okay, because it will be a soreness of accomplishment…or something… :P

There are a few other classes I want to try, including Body Combat and Body Attack, and then hopefully get a regular routine going on with that.  All of that, plus getting back into a regular running routine…and yeah, that healthy diet BS (I kid!), and hopefully we’ll start seeing some awesome progress.  To quote the awesome Mrs. Fatass (who has a spiffy new blog look): It’s time.

WooT!

Do any of you readers take any of the Les Mills classes?  What do you think of them?

Have a great day, ya’ll!
