Today was the first experience at a Farmers Market.
I was expecting this huge outdoor marketplace, with all sorts of farmers and all sorts of goodies.
I got this.

To the defense of the farmers, it was crappy weather, so I’m not sure if there are usually are more vendors, but since the whole set up takes place at a small parking lot, I have a feeling that this is usually it.
The stuff that was there looked really good, but I didn’t end up getting any fruits or vegetables. I bought a loaf of orange/cranberry/pecan bread, and my roommate ended up buying a jar of honey.
We then ended up spending a crapload of money at Wegmans! My roommate wants to try going on a raw food diet (and may start blogging about it, so stay tuned) so we were looking for stuff for that. I told him I’d support him and try it part time. It’ll allow for a nice change of pace with the diet, and will give me an opportunity to possibly try some new stuff. We’ll see how that goes…
I did find one thing at the Farmers Market that was pretty awesome, or one on the building adjacent to it.

TRIFORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone has had a great weekend!
OMG, I love Wegman’s….every time I visit my mom out there I go for like….three hours. At once.

Steve, give it another try on a nice day. Ours is in a mall parking lot, which sounds lame, but all it takes is a handful of great vendors to make it very worthwhile!
Wow, it looks like your farmer’s market is even smaller than ours! Good luck with that whole raw food thing with your roomate, it will be interesting to hear how that goes…

I try to avoid Wegman’s because I just love it sooooooooooo very much…. but I always leave soooooooooooooooo very poor. We have a ton of them up here and even the small ones are dangerous but our big one? It’s like the freakin’ Disney World of grocery stores. It even got a write-up in the NY Times when it opened … and while we’re in the same state we’re about 5 hours north of NYC on a slow-traffic day.
Great. Now I want to go grocery shopping. Thanks.

I should have taken a picture of the farmers market I was at on Saturday — it was raining and crowded. Don’t give up on them yet!
I’m using your blog to see if my new gravatar works.
we have some great ones around here so I feel very lucky. However, the one I have closest to home didn’t start off all that big, and it’s grown thru the summer. So perhaps this was just an off day?
our farmers markets have really struggled this year b/c of the flood a few months ago. So I have really been trying to support them. Also, do you have availible csa’s there? Community Supported Agriculture. I purchased a share last year and recieved a 1/2 bushel of fresh veggies every week. it was pretty sweet.
Is it sad that I’m a 34 year old mom and knew what that pic was before you said tri-force? I’m going to think I’m a cool mom. tee hee.

On a crappy weather day, our Farmer’s Market looks like that, too…and I’m in the middle of corn country! Have fun with the raw foods thing – I love experimenting with different types of eating…

Some farmer’s markets are like that. They have better food than the supermarket usually.
One thing that I do is ask each farmer whether they grow it themselves or not and then if they use any pesticide on their stuff. You’d be surprised by how many buy the food that they sell…
give it another try and I hope it’ll be better for you.
Before I went fully Paleo/Primal with my diet, I did aout 2 months of raw food only. Totally changed what I craved. I craved cooked veggies, steaks, and after eating all the fruit, totally eliminated any cravings I’ve had for sweet stuff. Worth a shot. Since beginning a Paleo diet on June 1, I’ve lost a little over 20 lbs. Not too shabby, I think. Good luck.
