Progress Report: Week 29
Weight: 236.6lbs
BMI: 34.4
Weight loss so far:  6.6 lbs gained since last week, 28.4 lbs lost total

Bummer.

I knew I was going to have a gain this week, and I wasn’t going to sweat it too much…but 6.6 pounds in a week is alot.  It’s also somewhat questionable, I think.  I will be the first to admit that I can be a pretty awesome eater, but 6.6 pounds equates to 23,100 calories.  So unless I drank a bottle of vegetable oil (which I didn’t, FYI), I’m going to say some of that is water weight.

Still, some of that is legit though.

As I mentioned on Friday, being a full time teleworker has thrown me for a complete loop.  Some of you love it, based upon the comments from Friday, and thats awesome, but plenty of you also recongnize the issues involved too, so I don’t feel so alone in my feelings about it.

Last week I snacked constantly, I ordered food if I had a craving, and I didn’t work out nearly as much as usual.

But this is something I need to get control over, and I will.  It wasn’t too long ago when being in the office provided its fair share of obstacles.

I overcame them, I can overcome this.

Hope you all are having better luck!

  1. Yep, you know the scale is on crack when you see numbers like this. Don’t sweat it. I bet it has something to do with your sodium intake. :)

  2. I would say that some of that is water weight, or you’re just hanging on to some stuff. Eat a Fiber One bar and a big salad. That will help. :) I never left a comment about working from home, but in the four months I was home because I didn’t have a job, I just loaded up my kitchen with fruit and pretty much maintained my weight in that time. The only bad thing I had was one of those huge boxes of Goldfish crackers and that got old.

  3. I bet you had a lot of salty food. I went up 3.5 pounds one week and I know it was because I’d had a lot of salt. The next week I dropped 5.5. It’s all a big cycle. Keep your head up and continue with your routine. Drink some extra water to flush out all the sodium and you’ll be fine.

  4. I can’t even imagine how tempting it would be to eat non-stop while working at home. Still I’m pretty certain you did not consume 23000 extra calories. You have a great attitude towards it all and I have no doubt you will be an overcomer!

  5. I KNOW you didn’t drink a bottle of veg oil, that’s just plain silly! Extra Virgin Olive is where the party’s at! I kid, I kid. ;-) :-P

You’ll get through this, Steve. It sucks, yeah, but you can totally bounce back. Drink water like crazy and flush your system out. Eat clean and remember to remember to check your mileage. You’ll drop back in no time! :-D

  6. Yeah, I am pretty sure that 6.6 pounds isn’t indicative of what you actually gained. Either way, bump in the road, man….bump in the road! You’ll get it off and more! I think sometimes it is weeks like these that can re-motivate us in the way we needed!

  7. I’ve noticed my carb and water intake tends to be when I gain the most water weight, I’m sure you’ll be down again by next week. :)

  8. Why can we pack it on so easy but we bust our tails to get half that off in a week. I feel your pain…being home…working from home…IS a real challenge. Hang in there…I know you will make this work.

  9. I had a week like that and within 2 days most of it was gone. It had to have been water weight. Remember you are working toward progress not perfection. These set backs help us prioritize and evaluate. Keep it going!

  11. You definitely have some water weight gain (how much of the at home snacking was processed foods that make you retain water?) but you also probably have a small gain, but you know why and you are working on it, changes in routine take time to adapt to. Once you find a new system for being at home you might like it as much as some of the rest of us do. Stock the kitchen with healthy items and keep it closed as much as possible, you will adapt and get back on track soon.

Good luck and stay focused this week, tweet instead of eat! :p

You can do it Bro! It’s tough. But you have come so far. This is a minor speed bump.

  13. I’m simultaneously jealous of your ability to telecommmute and terrified of it. I think I’d risk it, but I can still sympathize with the stress it must add. Everyday is kind of like a weekend.

But hey, don’t sweat the gain. I did the same thing recently, and it’ll come back off. You’ll be in the 220s before you know it!

  14. Man, that stinks.

I had a rough weekend myself where I overindulged in stuff that I really, really shouldn’t have. It was easier to order out than it was to prepare anything healthy. Well, that and the fact that we had no groceries in the house and neither of us felt like shopping. haha. Anyway, Hang in there. If anyone can turn around a gain like this it’s you!

  15. Yeah, 6.6 pounds is crazy for one week – unless you ate nothing but butter all week long, I think you can safely assume this is a bit off (to say the least). This is one of the reasons I switched to using Physics Diet for my weigh-ins, it helps smooth out the bumps and irregularities like this (both ups and downs), and gives you a much more even curve, something closer to your “true” weight.

  16. Sorry to hear about your gain but the important thing is that you have a great attitude! We all hit bumps in the road now and then, but if you can keep visualizing yourself achieving your target weight then you will be empowered to keep going. Keep it up!

  17. I agree, 6.6 pounds is a fluke. It must be water weight or something. I’m sure it will come right back off. I also agree with Erin… drink lots of water and get your system flushed out.

  18. Boo. Hiss. Do-Over.

I think you’re constipated. And you didn’t go pee.

Possibly you’ve got a kitty that gets tricksy with the scale.

It’s an all out conspiracy I tell you. Curse them all Steve. Show them you are the chosen one. The only one brave and true enough because in the face of all odds and the pits of despair you proclaim, “I overcame them, I can overcome this.”

    Awesome.

  19. ok Ill spare you the FIBERFIBER rant since you seem to have gotten that covered :)

let me know if you wanna brainstorm anything…any ideas for healthy snacks etc!

  20. I telecommute and it is an awesome thing for eating healthy. I can take 5 minutes to throw something in the oven. Then go grab it while being on the phone. I could never be so strict on a diet while working in an office and having to either pack all my lunches or find healthy places to eat out. The key is to make sure you have plenty of healthy options always available. Then you don’t have to order out and you feel that you should eat that food before it goes bad.
